How to Control 5 Sense Organs and Their Functions?

How to control 5 sense organs and their functions

Control- over five senses is a difficult task but is easy to understand if we start with the fundamentals. Human beings have five sensory organs: sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch.

Our mind and physique depend on these five senses for knowledge of the outer world.

With the related information supplied from these five organs our body functions by the movement of muscle tissues or the release of chemical compounds within the bloodstream to activate any sensors.

Control the Senses

The inputs given by the sense organs make our mind feel the emotions of pleasure, excitement, apprehension, or desire.

The mind isn't in contact with the outer world by itself. If the five senses organs give the data of the outer world to the mind then the person reacts to it.

Generally, he is trounced by panic, rambling with delight, overjoyed by pleasure, bewildered by nervousness, unsteady by desire, and so forth.

Senses are essential because they allow us to understand the world in which we live. A way is our ability to detect stimuli that are then interpreted and responded to accordingly.

People will not be the only creatures with sensory capacity – animals have senses too. The levels of sensory functionality vary amongst species.

Without the assistance of the five senses organs, our mind is cut off to the outer world. It's close to impossible for us to cut off the five sense organs from the world.

Because the senses are where lust begins, it's advised that they're managed and your question is, "How to do that?"

First, it is advised that they're engaged in a better activity. Like a child, if we wish to maintain him/her from doing mischief we can tell the kid to sit down still however that won't last long. We've to maintain the kid busy in positive engagement.

To make sure avoidance of undesirable inputs to our mind from our five sense organs, we have to develop a system that filters and controls the input.

This management system which Patanjali Maharshi explains within the Yoga Sutras is Indriya Nigraha, a capability to shut out or restrain the data and associated instinctive reactions from the five sense organs of our choice.

How do I control my senses

How Do I Control My Senses

Sense organs is an indispensable requisite for Meditation. On account of the restlessness of any one of the indriyas, the aspirant fails in meditation.

By way of introspection find out which indriya is troubling you and curb it ruthlessly.

Control of indriyas

  1. Give up the objects which the actual indriya tries to know. Destroy the thirst for objects and sense enjoyment.
  2. Speak the truth. Speak a little. Observe silence, for a while. Converse sweet, loving, gentle words. Don't utter harsh words. Don't abuse anyone. That is the self-discipline of vak indriya, the organ of speech.
  3. Don't take a look at anyone with a lustful look. Whenever you move within the streets take a look at the tip of the nose or the massive toe and walk. Don't look hither and thither. That is the self-discipline of the eye, the organ of sight.
  4. Don't attend events or take pleasure in gossiping and discussing worldly topics. Don't hear vulgar music. That is the self-discipline of the ear, the organ of hearing.
  5. Don't use scents. That is the self-discipline of nostrils, the organ of smell.
  6. Quit salt and sugar for a week. Stay on simple food. Fast on, special occasions, or live on milk. That is the self-discipline of the tongue, the organ of taste.
  7. Observe brahmacharya, continence. Sleep on a hard mat. Walk bare-footed. Don't use an umbrella. That is the self-discipline of the skin, the organ of touch.

Absolute clean the mind by meditation or fix the mind in your ishta devata, personal deity. Carry it back again and again when it wanders and fix it on the picture.

That is the sadhana for checking the indriyas.

Functions of The Five Senses

  • Eyes 👀

Sight also referred to as the vision, is our potential to see. The eyes are the visible sensory organs of the human physique. Different animals, birds, and fish also see through their eyes.

Human eyes differ in color depending on the quantity of melanin within the physique. Eye colors will be brown, blue, gray, green, and even combinations.

Our eyes are sensitive to photographs of light. Seeing happens when the eyes detect and deal with these images. The scientific examination of sight is called optics.

Photoreceptors present within the eye’s retina are what interpret gentle images. Rods and cones are the 2 forms of photoreceptors.

Rods are extra delicate to gentle movement whereas cones are extra delicate to colors and particulars.

The optic nerve is what carries impulses to the mind. Blindness is the inability to see. Blindness will be temporary or permanent.

Causes of blindness include, but will not be restricted to, injury to the eyeball, damage to the optic nerve, and trauma to the brain.

  • Ears  👂

Listening, also known as auditory perception or audition, is our potential to understand sounds. We've our auditory system by which we detect vibrations and hear sounds.

Our ears are auditory organs. Vibrations are transmitted via a medium such as air. These vibrations are mechanically carried on from the eardrum through the tiny bones.

  • Nose  👃

The sense of smell can also be known as olfaction. We've our olfactory system by which we smell and perceive completely different odors and scents.

The nose is an olfactory organ. The nostril can be an organ to help in our sense of style. People breathe through two holes known as nostrils.

There are hundreds of olfactory receptors that interpret smells around us. Olfactory receptor neurons within the nostril have the unique potential to regularly die and regenerate.

Olfactory neurons within the nostril can even detect pheromones, which is a chemical substance launched by people which may have an effect on how they relate to each other. Animals generally have a sharper sense of smell than humans.

  • Tongue  👅

We've one tongue by which we perceive varied tastes and flavors like sweet, salty, sour, and bitter. The small bumps on the tongue are the papillae. Taste buds are the sensory organs on the tongue’s upper surface.

The completely different components of the tongue detect distinct flavors: front for salty and sweet, back for bitter, and sides for sour.

The fifth basic taste is named umami. Taste additionally known as gestation is the sense we used to detect the taste of meals and different substances.

  • Skin  👊

Our pores and skin is the most important organ because it covers our complete physique. The receptors on our skin allow us to understand texture, pain, temperature, pressure, and ache.

The sense of touch is activated by neural receptors found within the skin, and different surfaces just like the tongue and hair follicles.

Skin receptors generate an impulse that is carried to the spinal wire and then to the mind. Pressure receptors within the skin are sensitive to adjustments in pressure.

Itch-specific neurons within the skin give us the touch sense of itching. Tactile anesthesia is the inability to really feel something physically.
